The Helpful Web

In the modern age, probably what we use more than MasterCard is the Internet! For everything else, there is Mastercard, remember?

Jokes apart, the internet is turning into a medium that can be used to virtually we can think of. One such aspect of the internet is e-shopping. I want to today, speak about my experiences of e-shopping, the awesomeness of it and the not-so-obvious bottlenecks.

Consider a website like paytm.com, where we can recharge our mobile phones, book bus tickets, prepay DTH and what not! Flipkart.com is another site which offers facilities to buy stuff online and have them delivered to your home, in most cases, at no extra cost. Florist.com is a website that delivers flowers right down to your crush's house!

All this seems so rosy and fine but we rarely consider the pitfalls in such schemes. Say, for example, one recharge fails, where do you complain? Recently, I have had such an experience, where a popular recharge kept failing on my mobile phone. However, the website, kept charging money and refunding it. When I was refunded, it was in the form of virtual cash that I could later refund to my bank. Now the plan is, given then convenience of recharging my mobile from my laptop, why would I want to venture out in search of a store?

However, the traditional way seems much safer and secure in some cases! For one, I have control on my money. I am going to pay the vendor only after I have received the recharge or product in general. In e-buys, I have no control on my money, and the complaint process is far from pleasing. I was kept waiting for several days and finally I got a response on facebook, when the official complaint mail was not responded to! The response again, was not helpful as they said, I had received my recharge, when clearly I had not. I chose not to waste my time and get my recharge done the traditional way.

No hassles. No insecurity. No problems.

  1. So, this is why you kept making those posts on Facebook complaining about the issue.
I suggest that you don't use these types of websites anymore. I find it difficult to trust these e-commerce sites offering services like mobile recharging, etc. I use BSNL, and always use the official BSNL site to recharge my phone. For other purposes like booking movie and cricket match tickets, I use the trusted sites like Bookmyshow and Kyazoonga.

  2. Thanks for your valuable comment Arunangshu! However, I use Reliance, but faced a similar problem of failed recharge through their official website (rcom [dot] co [dot] in) as well. It took around 2 days for my money to get refunded and over 2 hours of calling customer care.
